Brian and I will be in Raleigh June 4 - June 9, and we plan on making a wedding ruckus - we will have a meeting with our caterer, the lovely Rebecca at Square Rabbit; a meeting with Carleton's of Carleton's Flowers; an exchange of monies with our photographer; and our parents will be meeting. Yes, they haven't met yet. I will also be having a bridal shower, hosted by the divine Mrs. Jones, which means Brian and I finally had to register for stuff (links on main site, for the curious).
After work one night a few weeks ago, we went into the Downtown Seattle Bed, Bath and Beyond and walked around with the little registry gun they give you. Fun! For like... 45 minutes. We got through gadgets and small appliances, and we were done-tired. So, the rest of the stuff one puts on a registry has come in fits and spurts over the last few weeks. We also ended up registering at Macy's. The concept of wedding registries is a bit strange - while it is useful, since Brian and I have a lot of the basic kitchen stuff that we wouldn't want people to replicate, it seems weird to tell people what to buy us. So - don't feel constrained by our little list! How else will we get the strange and lovely things that will sit on our bookshelves for years to come? :)
Here we come, Raleigh, Raleigh.

Dress!
I bought a dress last week, from Cicada Bridal, which is a store I mentioned a while ago that's located in Seattle. Yay! All done! I like Cicada because they make their dresses locally, they don't require too much lead time, and they are very nice to work with. Plus - I feel like the dress is very much mine, and not something I just chose at random. I will be having a fitting in a few weeks, and then another one in August, and then I'll take my dress away from them September 8 or so, to spirit away to NC. If you want to know what it looks like, ask! Brian is all about the surprise.

We approach the four month mark...
It comes a time in a young person's life where they must think about... cake. Beautiful, delicious cake. Weddings demand beauty, Brian demands tasty. While there are many great wedding cake creators in the Raleigh area, we are lucky that Brian's mom has agreed to make our wedding cake. Which means, of course, that she will be the vision, and Brian will be the grunt work. Sorry Brian.
Now... what to eat? Going with our vague Southern-themed wedding, we had thought about red velvet cake, but Brian's mom protested - I guess it would be about a cup of red food coloring, and isn't that disgusting? Fortunately, our caterer will be providing some lovely red velvet cupcakes, for your enjoyment. So now (continuing with the Southern theme), we are circling around a lovely coconut cream cake, covered with grated coconut. How happy.
